The Greater Westmoreland Central Labor Council will screen “Off the Table” at its regular March monthly meeting. Jan Carpenter, an Executive Board Member of the Beaver-Lawrence Central Labor Council, will give a brief opening followed by the screening. The meeting will be held Monday, March 18, 2019, at 7:00 pm at the Hempfield No. 2 VFD, 421 Thornton Rd., Greensburg, PA.

John Thompson, UE International representative and coordinator of the Western Pennsylvania Single Payer Coalition Labor Outreach Committee, will report on the recent successful strike of the UE Local 506 and Local 618 workers at Wabtec in Erie. He will speak on how union bargaining power is weakened by a company’s ability to eliminate health insurance benefits during a strike.

Drs. Judy Albert and Tony Fiorello, leaders of Physicians for a National Health Program, will speak and respond to questions about a single payer health care program after the showing.

“Off the Table” is a 23 minute video that shows how Canadian style Medicare could cover everyone in the U.S. without co-pays, deductibles or premiums and remove one of the biggest obstacles U.S. labor negotiators face in contract negotiations.
