Thursday, May 22, 2014, is National Single-Payer Lobby Day!
On Thursday, May 22, 2014, a number of organizations will be holding a lobby day for national single payer health care legislation in Washington, D.C.
Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) and Andy Coates, MD, President of Physicians for a National Health Program, will kick off the day with a briefing on single payer for lawmakers and the press.
The briefing will begin at 10:00 am in Room 2226 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The public is invited to attend. Congressman Conyers is chief sponsor of HR 676, Expanded and Improved Medicare for All.
Two more congresspersons, Janice Hahn of California and Tim Ryan of Ohio, have recently signed on to HR 676, bringing to 57 the number of co-sponsors in the House.

9:00-10:00 am: Lobby Training in Room 2226, Rayburn House Office Building
10:00-11:30 am: Briefing on single payer for lawmakers, their staff, the press and the public. In addition to Congressman Conyers and PNHP President Coates, Congressmen Keith Ellison of Minnesota and Jim McDermott of Washington have confirmed that they will attend.
11:30 am- 5:00 pm: Advocates meet with representatives & senators urging that they co-sponsor HR 676 and S 1782.
5:00-6:30 pm: Reception, Public Citizen’s Office—Rob Weissman, President of Public Citizen will keynote.
Among the organizations taking part in this lobby day are: All Unions Committee for Single Payer Health Care—HR 676, Public Citizen, Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), Healthcare NOW, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), Labor Campaign for Single Payer, National Nurses United, and the American Medical Students Association (AMSA).
