Rail Workers Urge Rep. Jayapal to 'Stand Pat' on HR 676

Railroad Workers United, a nationwide organization of railroad workers that promotes unity across 13 different unions, has sent the letter below to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal

Railroad Workers United

Solidarity -- Unity -- Democracy

Dear Congressperson Jayapal:

Railroad Workers United (RWU) has long been a proponent of single payer health care as embodied in HR 676. (see Resolution from our Founding Convention in 2008 attached). It has come to our attention that Congressperson Jayapal is considering the re-writing the bill and using S 1804, the Senate Medicare for All bill, as the model. We have grave concerns about this, as S 1804 is but a shadow of HR 676.

We urge you to refrain from tampering with the original language of HR 676 and to not introduce language that would allow for co-pays on certain drugs, for-profit hospitals, incremental implementation and other features which we feel would water down and, in effect destroy the legislation.

Please stand pat and support HR 676 as is. The momentum is on our side. We do not want another political disaster like "Obamacare".

Yours sincerely,

Ron Kaminkow

RWU General Secretary
