Chicago, Illinois. The 250 delegates to the recent USW District 7 Convention unanimously endorsed HR 676, single payer healthcare legislation introduced by Congressman John Conyers (D-MI).
Jim Robinson, District 7 Director and maker of the motion to endorse HR 676, said after the vote, “As a nation we need to move quickly to solve the health care crisis that is undermining the jobs that support the middle class and placing our families at needless risk of physical and financial hardship.”
USW District 7 represents 70,000 members in Illinois and Indiana who work in steel, aluminum, glass, rubber, auto parts, paper, and utilities. A District 7 USW leader of retirees, Steve Skvara, made headlines last August when he passionately placed the healthcare crisis before the presidential candidates at the AFL-CIO sponsored debate in Chicago.
