Labor Councils in Texas, Florida and New York Endorse HR 676

In Texas, the El Paso Central Labor Union AFL-CIO has endorsed HR 676, single payer legislation introduced by Congressman John Conyers (D-MI). Council President David Aranda reports that the Council, which has 18 affiliated unions representing 12,000 union members, will be contacting their congresspersons with the aim of getting them to sign on as co-sponsors of the bill.

In White Plains, New York, James Edmiston, President of the Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body AFL-CIO, reports that his council has also endorsed the Conyers legislation. The Council represents over 120,000 union members in two counties just north of New York City. Edmiston states that a copy of the council’s resolution will be sent to Congresswoman Nina Lowey.

In Tallahassee, Florida, the Big Bend Chapter of the Northwest Florida Federation of Labor has endorsed HR 676, reports President Ralph Hill who said “We are proud to stand…in support of this legislation and will work at the local level to help achieve that goal.” The Big Bend Chapter represents workers in Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor and Wakulla counties. The Northwest Florida Federation of Labor is headquartered in Pensacola.
